May 17. The first night air raid on Fort Knox tested US Army spring maneuver tactics. Attacking Red Army planes from Layton Ohio faced anti aircraft fire and darkened skies as searchlights picked out six of the planes. Data on hits remains to be compiled amid the spectacle of lights and pursuit planes.
Washington May 17 A plan for a sweeping government reorganization was said by budget director Lewis W. Dougald to be contemplated as a major message Roosevelt would transmit to Congress before adjournment. It was indicated that by next week a design for abandonment retraining and merging of functions intended to save several hundred millions of dollars in the current year would be ready.
In Tacu buya a suburb one person died and several were wounded in an exchange of shots between rival factions during the early presidential campaign. The incident followed Geo. Lavoro Cardenas resigning as minister of war and declaring his candidacy to succeed President Aorigades.
Prague dispatch reports the newspaper Paya Lida charging Chancellor Adolf Hitler is of Jewish origin. It claims his paternal line hails from a Bohemian town Folns, with 35 emigrants in 1827, and that Palma hosts a Jewish community where Hitlers are all Jews or of Jewish origin.
About 50 Pauline Nelson school pupils led by Principal Miss Molly R. Nelson attended a memorial ceremony at Josephine Tonin Arch in Woodlews Lake to honor Mrs. Pauline Nelson. The event featured flower bearers Cora Lee Smart Helen Waite Jane Ward and others, with guest speaker William Tobin Thornton and PTA leadership guiding the program.
Burrell Crane eight year old son of Mr and Mrs L A Crane of 18 Fairbanks avenue was treated at Santa Rosa infirmary Wednesday for a compound fracture of the right leg and other injuries after being struck by an auto near his home Tuesday. His brother Hapold eighteen was crushed when a truck beneath which he was working tipped off the rack on May 8.

Prancisco Martinez, 27, of 1414 Pria street, was charged by complaint with murder in Justice of the Peace John F. Quion's court. The charge relates to the death of Rodolfo Sanchez, who lived near North Colorado and Martin streets. Sanchez was shot in the abdomen with a pistol Saturday night, according to police.
Roosevelt urged pledges not to cross borders as Japanese forces push into China. Japanese troops advance west of the Iwan river with banners seen in Tangshan and other towns. Reports claim Kaiping near Tientsin was seized by Maj. Gen. Teizo Hirage’s Twenty eighth Infantry brigade.
The Southern Pacific note, beginning June 1, will operate through sleeping cars daily from San Antonio to Chicago via New Orleans on the Sunset Limited. J. T. Monroe, passenger traffic manager, announced Wednesday. The train leaves at 3:30 p.m. with low fares to Chicago in effect.
Marx Brothers from New York and Los Angeles attended the funeral of Samuel Marx in Marxelbury New York on a Tuesday in May 1717. Gummo Marx, who shared the family stage life, was present after following the elder brothers into show business.
Washington May 1 Postel receipts, a barometer of business, rose 2.79 percent for the week ended May 12. The report notes tempering with the 1932 period, and the Portfolios Department announced the figures today.
