Withdrawal proposal to remove British forces from Egypt
The plan envisions Egypt taking over defense of a strategic area along the Suez lifeline and deploying mutual aid with Britain in wartime under the 1936 Anglo Egyptian treaty. The staged withdrawal, to start Thursday and finish within two weeks, aligns with pursuing a renewed equal partnership and ongoing negotiations with Egypt. Lord Stansgate approved the outline as talks with Egyptian representatives proceed.
