Raymond Lozano, 37, was killed after an argument that began two years ago over a ham sandwich. Manuel Moreno, 20, surrendered to police after Lozano was shot three times in the 100 block of Joy Street. one bullet was removed from Lozano at Santa Rosa hospital.

A two month old Valley baby, Robert Anthony Fernandez, en route to the polio ward at Robert B. Green Hospital, narrowly escaped injury when an ambulance from Mercedes burst into flames on the way to San Antonio. Accompanied by his parents and driven by Lawrence Slayton, deputies met the ambulance at Pleasanton to escort it through the town, but the front of the vehicle became engulfed in flames before reaching the hospital.
