Army Plan Cuts 2000 Planes Monthly In Wartime Output
The Army Air Forces draft a plan to cut monthly aircraft output by up to 2000 planes from about 7000. The reduction targets mostly combat types including P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang, with B-29 and B-32 bombers kept, and cargo aircraft possibly cut as war winds down. Final scheduling shifts extend into 1946 with production of jets like the Shooting Star still in early testing. The Navy may maintain demand for current lines as supplies adjust to end of hostilities.
