POWs Return From Vietnam Release At Clark Air Base
About 32 POWs were sent off at Clark Air Base as 587 U.S. prisoners held by the Communists in North Vietnam were released with the South Vietnam troop withdrawal. An Army captain remained in Viet Cong hands but was expected to be freed next week. Most released soldiers reported good physical condition and few personal problems after short captivity, with earlier detainees recounting torture less often. At Clark, about 100 dependents greeted the returning men with leis, posters, kisses, cheers and hugs as Col. Benjamin H. Purcell spoke of gratitude and renewed faith.
