Dr. Gustav Egloff, at the Western Petroleum Refiners association convention in San Antonio, urged linking water supply to oil and petrochemical development. He proposed pumping water from the Great Lakes into Texas and highlighted the state as a leading petrochemical center with vast investments. He noted future uses include synthetic tires, light textiles, plastic ware, and fertilizers, and warned uranium power will grow, but even atom motors will need oil for lubrication.

A new catalytic reforming process called Rexforming could let refiners produce gasolines with octane ratings over 100. Reported to the Western Petroleum Refiners Association meeting in San Antonio, the method aims to deliver high quality reformate for high compression engines, boosting octane averages. Arraignment Set For Steve C Barrera In Tax Case

Arraignment of Steve C Barrera 29 of 103 Willee is scheduled for Wednesday in Waco federal court. He is charged with failing to file income tax returns for 1930 1951 and 1952 and allegedly owes 6364 plus interest. Authorities say he earned 400 to 700 dollars a month during 1950 52. Barrera is brother of Rev Barrera assistant district attorney for Bexar county. Assistant U S Atty Harmon Parrott will represent the government.

The Public Roads Bureau estimates Texas highway needs through 1964 at 2.674 billion dollars and the nation at 101 billion. Interstate development in Texas is projected at 872 million, including 515 million for rural and 357 million for urban roads.

Oil Imports Try to Justify Increase in Texas

In Worth on March 29 Ernest O. Thompson of the Texas railroad commission argued that oil imports rise because foreign crude is cheaper than domestic oil, not due to shortages. His remarks were read by W J Murray Jr in Amarillo as the Independent Producers Association backed a report to end federal gas controls. The group urged support for the economic waste bill and a competitive gas price for Texas producers and landowners.
