Judge weighs phone tax fight in Texas court
The federal court in San Antonio considered whether Bexar County may tax Southwestern Bell for going concern value in a dispute over a 2.498 million dollar telephone valuation. Judge Duval West delayed ruling to allow briefs from both sides, with a half week notice before a decision. County officials testified that going concern value was added from Judge Dibrell’s 1980 sale report, while Bell’s attorney challenged the approach, asserting the value was not taxable.
