Roosevelt seeks approval for Great Lakes St Lawrence deep waterway pact

President Roosevelt sent to Congress a proposal to develop the St. Lawrence waterway with Canada at an estimated cost surpassing 500 million pounds. The plan envisions deep sea navigation between the Great Lakes and Atlantic and 2,200,000 hydropower horsepower, with dams and power works in the International Rapids area and link remodelling along the corridor. The accord mirrors a rejected 1934 treaty. passage now requires a majority vote in Congress and approval by Canada. Roosevelt urged prompt introduction of legislation to implement the agreement. The notice ends with an unrelated help-wanted line for a job via a Broadway Fifth Street ad.
