Forty attendees packed the largest hall in San Antonio for an Irish themed St Patrick's Day entertainment under the San Antonio Hibernians. The program featured Gilbert O'Shaughnessy, Irish songs, jigs and reels, and an address by Charles H. Bertrand and Thomas J. Courey. Bertrand spoke on democracy, liberty, and citizenship drawing parallels from Irish history and the American founding, noting Irish migration from 1845 to 1846 and Irish soldiers in the Civil War. The event, organized by J. J. Costigan, included performances by Alice Neville and a roster of singers and dancers.
