Union Offers No Defense For Ford Plant Blockade
Detroit March 16 Local 90 of the United Automobile Workers offered no defense for the blockade at Ford's River Rouge plant as the company suspended 50 employes. The union criticized the governor’s police appeal and Dearborn mayor Hubbard defended police conduct while Ford claimed suspensions followed actions by those involved in the blockade amid ongoing tensions at the factory.

Finland urged to reject Germany and sever link with Nazi ally
United States and Britain appealed to Finland’s people to end what Roosevelt called a hateful partnership with Germany. The move followed Finland’s parliament vote rejecting Soviet armistice terms and amid cautious expectations of a resumption of hostilities. Helsinki pessimism and fears of Russian dominance colored reactions as neutrals and Nazi satellites watched closely for guidance. Prince Barbu Stickey, en route to Cairo, would relay Allied peace terms results to King Mihai.
