Youth Writes Of Bombs and Lighter Things in Canterbury Letter
Excerpts from a February 5 letter from Murray Crousette in Canterbury to a friend in Canada recount wartime life. Jack Jordan, a munitions worker, describes London ice skating, dances, and inflow of cigarettes, plus plans to travel to Canada after the “spot of bother.” He mentions raids near Canterbury, air alerts, and sights of searchlights, bombs, and the RAF. He also shares jokes about Mussolini and Hitler and notes a pet cat and dog coping with air raids.
