Nameless Planet Found by Astronomers at Lowell Observatory
A new world larger than Earth was detected near Neptune and preliminarily located three hours Greenwich time on March 21 by Clyde Tombaugh and staff at Lowell Observatory. The unnamed planet lies about 45 billion miles farther from the Sun than Earth, beyond Del a Geminorum, with size at least Earth’s, and remains invisible to the naked eye. The discovery, made with the Lawrence Lowell telescope, marks a major planetary finding since Neptune in 1846. Further measurements will define its distance, orbit, and characteristics.
