Connally's Party Switch May Realign U S Politics
Washington AP reports two top Texas Republicans foresee Democrat John Connally's possible move to the GOP accelerating party realignment. Anne Armstrong and Sen. John Tower say a Connally switch would boost the Republican majority, especially in the South, and could sway millions of Nixon voters. Armstrong says a "monumental break in the dike" is possible, while Tower calls Connally a tremendous asset and notes it could reshape Texas GOP leadership and funding.
