Local shopkeeper dodges wartime risk with cactus shipment
Molly Gaskin runs a cactus shop and art gallery in San Antonio. An English customer attempted to mail a small cactus to his mother but faced fears of pests and possible war-related misuse. Authorities demanded certificates, swore affidavits, and the crate was ultimately sent to England. Other locals, including Lynn Hawkins, Helen Cardiel, Velma Patria, Bill Geyer, Chick Collins, and Bhel by Shied, are noted for various pursuits in town life. The piece also touches on Mexican beliefs about rattlesnakes and luck at a reptile garden.
