Showdown in court as ex Cardinals sue baseball
In New York on March 9 two former St Louis Cardinals pitchers Max Lanier and Fred Martin led a federal suit seeking 2.5 million dollars and reinstatement after suspensions for jumping to the Mexican league. They named 25 defendants including Chandler Trautman and the 16 major league clubs, seeking damages under antitrust laws and arguing the reserve clause deprived them of livelihood. The case aims for an early decision with a show cause order set for next Tuesday.
