Prohibition agents under Verne Miller ran a quiet detour across the district Wednesday and Thursday. In Austin four women were arrested and a car seized. Near Teague a man was arrested, an automobile seized, and whiskey seized. Near Mexia nine men were arrested after an agent bought liquor.
Curtis says he met John, alleged kidnap gang leader, and pressed for proof to convince Colonel Lindbergh. He claims the gang paid $50,000 in ransom for the Lindbergh baby and warned, If we believe you, he can go. Lindbergh testified earlier he doubted Curtis’s negotiations.
Federal Judge R J McMillan came back to San Antonio Thursday from Austin. He will hear the civil suit Baldwin versus Gammel of Austin, a San Antonio bookseller, on Friday. The case involves a financial dispute in a civil action.
New officers for the current year were elected Wednesday by the San Antonio Branch No. 103 of the National Association of Postoffice Supervisors. Grover G. Ridgeway, superintendent of transportation at the downtown postoffice, was chosen president. Other officers elected were T. B. Marshall secretary and J. W. Craig treasurer.
Two confiscated automobiles will be sold by the United States marshal in a public auction Saturday July 2 at 2 p.m. The sale will be in a warehouse at 601 South Medina Street. The item was announced Thursday.
