New Lunacy Law Lets Physicians Rule on Sanity
The new Bexar county lunacy law shifts trial to a commission of physicians rather than a jury. Judge Davis appointed six doctors who will form a four member panel to judge sanity or insanity. The first case under the old method was tried today, with the new system taking effect tomorrow and costing about $60 per case. Dr. Berrey sees little difference beyond physician examinations, noting both laws keep patients confined and use similar procedures.
