On June 28 in Rhodes Count Folke Bernadotte, UN mediator, presented peace proposals for Palestine. Premier Jamil Mardambey of Syria rejected any partition or Jewish state. In Costa Rica, elections are compulsory for all men under 70.
Ray, aged about 38, died from knife wounds suffered during a Saturday night altercation in front of a bar on Zarzamora Street. He was transported to Santa Rosa Hospital by two bystanders, Fred Penu and Jesse Gonzales. A bar operator, Fred Davis, was booked for murder.

Owen H. Nance, longtime railroad executive and former president of the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad, died here yesterday. Nance led the Ma and Pa line starting in 1915 after resigning as treasurer and auditor for the St. Louis Brownsville and Mexico railroad, with earlier posts in Kingsville, Texas.

Medina a taxi driver at 316 Water Street Bell was treated at Santa Rosa hospital for arm cuts after a passenger assaulted him while demanding the fare. The assailant ordered Medina to drive to West Poplar and Trinity Streets and attacked him when he leaned over to read a note. The incident was reported to police Monday.
