Captain Clarence L. Test of the Texas National Guard ordnance department has returned from Corpus Christi where he evaluated three possible locations for a new militia target range. A decision on one site is nearly made.
Texas Supreme Court refused a motion for a new hearing in the mandamus case of Bowie County Sheriff J. F. Rochelle against Comptroller W. P. Lane. In a brief opinion, Chief Justice Brown rebuked the assistant attorney general, affirmed the court’s prior ruling, and rejected reliance on Governor Hogg’s opinion as higher authority, denying that constitutional authority rested with the comptroller to correct county reports.
Milton Stiles was shot four times and killed eight miles northwest of Gonzales Texas on Thursday. His son in law Joe Green surrendered, was jailed, then released on $1000 bond claiming self defense after Stiles allegedly fired at him first.
