Fort Clark group moves to preserve historic post
A San Antonio led effort forms the Fort Clark Military Institute to preserve the abandoned Fort Clark near Bracketville for nonprofit education. Key backers include Col. W B Tuttle, Alex Thomas, and board members John Garner, Amon Carter, Sam Young, Lon Hill, and Judge Joe York, with bills in Texas legislature authorizing transfer to the institute. The site drew bids, highest at $411,250 from Texas Railway Equipment Co. of Houston, but preservation supporters argue for public use and educational value.
