Postman Smitty Fetes San Antonio Beat-Long Worker
A San Antonio postman nicknamed Smitty, Henry J. Schmidt, is celebrated for walking vast miles over 35 years, averaging 12 miles daily and carrying about 100 pounds of mail. A post office party at his Frasch Street home honors his decades of service and near-world-spanning journeys. The 8 o'clock gathering with National Association of Letter Carriers spotlights his remarkable endurance despite a recent foot injury.
