Starr County Attorney Randall Nye denied conflict of interest and diligence charges from state senators over the labor dispute involving farm labor union activities. He said delays in trials stem from potential demonstrations and noted his prior representation of union members and Starr Produce Co. in related matters.
James R. Hoffa asked the court to reduce or suspend his eight year term. U.S. District Judge Frank W. Wilson denied the motion in a 75 word ruling. Hoffa, president of the Teamsters Union, is imprisoned in Lewisburg Pennsylvania after a 1944 Nashville conspiracy conviction. The motion cited illness of Hoffa and his wife as grounds.
