Court denies Wazis Italy's mother her child
The Fourth Court of Civil Appeals ruled Wednesday that Emma Gene Westen, age 11, should remain in permanent care with Eva and E. B. Campbell of Guadalupe County. The decision upheld a Guadalupe County district court custody award amid a dispute by the mother, Anna Johnson, and her husband H. L. Johanson. The child testified a preference for the Campbells, and Judge Slaton stated the best interests of the child prevail in custody cases when evidence shows no unfitness by the parent.
