Pasadena June 22 The Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce mailed a $500 speaker fee to James A Farley though he said the chamber was not obligated to pay him The incident arose from a mix up over a banquet fee Farley suggested sending the $900 after a $1000 offer and called the affair ridiculous He noted the chamber owes him nothing for his appearance and the matter was settled by the publicist and president of the chamber It also previews Queens of the Con Game by Pat Frank in The American Weekly.

Powder Blast Kills 2 at Hercules Powder Plant
In Pinole California on June 22 an immense explosion destroyed a nitro glycerin building at Hercules Powder Plant killing two workers. The blast echoed 200 miles and was heard across the northern San Francisco Bay area. Four hours earlier a trio of blasts at the Kenvil New Jersey plant killed three and injured six. A company spokesman ruled out sabotage and noted the New Jersey blast was heard in New York City.
