Krankenkassen Verein Dwindles as San Antonio Legacy Fades
A long waning society founded in 1865, the Krankenkassen Verein once counted San Antonio’s influential citizens among its members but now numbers only 34. It remains financially sound yet passive, with origins tied to Julius Behrends, founder and philanthropist, who supported a German American school and public movements before dying in 1892.
