Co-Ed Killer Sentenced to 80 Years in Boulder Case
Joe Sam Walker, 23, was given 30 years to life for the murder of Theresa Foster, an 18 year old Colorado University freshman. The judge said the crime was violent and atrocious, denying extenuating circumstances and noting time off for good behavior could allow release after 40 years. Walker’s defense argued the sentence was excessive and sought Supreme Court review. The jury convicted him of rape and murder after Foster’s body was found near a bridge south of Boulder following her disappearance from campus.
