Washington Roundup Deadlock Over Cotton Price Control

Senate and house conferees remain deadlocked on the cotton amendment in the war time price and wage controls extension bill. A 13 hour session failed to agree on raising ceilings to guarantee parity for cotton farmers, with a meeting set for 11 o clock. If unresolved, the issue moves to the full Senate. Also delaying recess are debates over a $500000 FEPC appropriation opposed by Senator Bilbo.

Dewey Bricker Poll Clash Signals GOP Race

A Dewey backer claimed polls show him as the top choice with 0 percent, while Taft argued Bricker’s true strength is unproven. Sprague said Bricker could unite the party if nominated, and Dewey remained silent. Pettis won Maine Democratic nomination for the first district seat, while Hildreth secured the Republican governor nomination. Texas court action looms on electors amid a Roosevelt-aligned bid in the Democratic party committee meeting in Chicago.

Democrats Plan Chicago Trip For National Convention

Pro-Democrat leaders including Secretary Woodville Rogers and ex-Governor James V. Allred worked Tuesday to arrange transport to the national convention in Chicago. They reported involvement in halting the vetoed case to the Texas Supreme Court and sought to have the presidential electors' fines printed on the general election ballot. The court was expected to decide Wednesday and a US Supreme Court appeal seemed unlikely if defeated, given travel constraints and a Monday ballot deadline.
