36th to Stay In Germany S late
An official Wiesbaden announcement says the 38th Infantry division will stay in Europe and the 36th, claimed by Texas as one of eight American divisions, will remain with the Seventh Army to control the area west of Thun with headquarters at Heidelburg. Other units forming the occupation army include the 83rd Airborne, First and Fourth Armored, and the First, Third, Ninth and 2nd Infantry divisions. The 2nd, now in Neufchateau, will move to Berlin within 36 hours, taking over roles once planned for the Second Armored as it is deployed elsewhere. Army commanders anticipate a strained mix of veterans and new troops with limited chance for early discharge.
