A Sunday twister cut a 25 mile swath west of Minneapolis injuring more than 60 and destroying homes and farms. Walter Israel of Anoka identified nine dead as relatives and neighbors perished. National Guard set up encampments to aid survivors as property losses near 500000.

Led by bloodhounds, a several hundred strong posse pressed through northern Wisconsin near Moose Lake and the Chippewa river towage in pursuit of a fugitive killer. Deputies reported possible sightings of Ray Olson after a store raid, with exchanges of gunfire, while searchers used airplants and bloodhounds to close in on his supposed refuge near Wisconsin waterways.
Deputies Fred Scott and Carl Johnson, ages 46 and 37, were fatally shot after surprising John Blue Sky in a shack near Chippewa Indian territory. The suspect seized firearms from Beat and Johnson, fled as deputies exhausted their efforts, and renewed attacks about noon Saturday. An hour later he fired again at two other deputies with no shots taking effect and disappeared until later. Authorities questioned Olea's wife, detained by a traffic officer who initially stopped Olson Lo as part of a license plate inquiry.
Central Texas rivers and highways faced flooding as 10 inch rainfall closed segments of Highways 7 77 6 and roads north of Hillsboro and in Bosque and Hill counties. Abilene total approached 1143 inches year to date while Wichita Falls saw 1 5 inches in parts. Cotton corn and pastures benefited though urban areas reported light to moderate totals with scattered showers forecast for East Texas tonight and West Texas later.
Washington reports the Senate committee approved a bill to underwrite 350 million dollars in private loans for farm purchases. Led by Senator Lee, the measure has co authors including 62 senators. The plan would be run by the Farm Security Administration to help tenants become landowners.
