Maxwell Cars Make Records On Coast Runs

Maxwell cars set economy records across the Pacific coast in May with stock touring models. Ray McNamara piloted a Maxwell from Oakland to San Jose on 1 gallon reaching 45.6 miles per gallon. The Lake Tahoe trip preceded heavy Sierra snow in 1889, proving the car’s ability to handle deep drifts without getting buried. The tests drew scrutiny from Lincoln Highway Association and San Diego Fair representatives.
