New City Manager Tours City Hall in Lubbock

Steve Matthews arrived as Lubbock city manager and toured City Hall with Councilman Crumline. He emphasized human relations, said managers must stay calm and fair, and met department heads including Finance Director Cy Aldridge and City Attorney Carlos Cadena while noting the heat and air conditions in offices.

News Manager Bringing Two Assistants to San Antonio

Steve Matthews announced he will become city manager of San Antonio on July 15 and bring two former assistants from Lubbock. He resigned as Lubbock city manager after accepting the post at $25,000 annually and plans to hire Robert L. Brown as administrative assistant and another staff member as assistant manager. The Lubbock council will pick his successor. Matthews will name his assistant manager after that choice. Brown is described as a minor assistant. Matthews is Kansas educated with a master's in public administration and is training for a city manager position. Mayor Tripp lauds Matthews for development and improvement during his tenure and wishes him success in a larger city.
