Death Decree to Be Appealed in Santa Cruz
Defense counsel said he would appeal Allan D. Hoyes’s death penalty conviction for the murder of his 17-year-old wife. Hoyes, a former Detroit resident, is the first in Santa Cruz County history to receive a death verdict. The jury deliberated 24 hours over two days before finding him sane, with the judge setting execution for June 22.

Comedian to Appeal Case in Hollywood Trial
Hollywood June 1. Comedian known for the big red nose says he will appeal after Superior Judge C. K. Morton ruled in favor of Dr. Jesse Citron who sued for 12 000 for unpaid medical bills. Citron testified he treated Fields for 25 days in 1936 and felt his care was fair. Fields countersued alleging the doctor’s methods slowed his recovery and sought 25 000.
