A glass dubbed to have an iron constitution survived a fall from a twelfth floor window at the Plaza. It landed on the coffee shop roof nine stories below and, when retrieved, showed no signs of damage. Joe M. Davis helped brush it from the ledge as onlookers watched.
In Czechoslovakia Premier Milan Hodza prepared to begin negotiations with Hungarian and Polish groups after over 24 hours of debate on minority demands. War prep continued with a $35 million defense fund, gas mask sales, and a Sokols driven popular war training event. Hodza agreed to use an eight point minority proposal as the discussion basis alongside the government plan.
Sealed bids will be received at 10 a.m. July 19 by Capt. W. Hu Roberts salvage officer at Kelly Field for a quantity of scrap metal mixed with miscellaneous automobile parts. The notice calls for bidding on salvage materials stored at the airfield.
At San Francisco the AMA delegates weighed interdepartmental committee proposals to finance sickness costs for self supporting and indigent patients. Miss Josephine Roche urged doctors to lead on public funding to expand medical care, while some locals already tested such funding. Dr Morris Fishbein said the discussion could unite government agencies and organized medicine for broader medical coverage.
In Moscow on June 16 seven heads of the retail trade department were ousted as housewives faced repeated shortages. The removals followed criticism of the commissariat for home trade for failing to stock ordinary socks and bread, along with other goods, and for keeping too few restaurants open.
Lazaro Cardenas of Mexico will preside at ceremonies opening a new highway section to Monterrey when he arrives next week at Reynosa across the Rio Grande from Hidalgo. Secretary Carlos Pena of Reynosa chamber of commerce said the section from Reynosa to Jabai is the second section completed in the last year.
