Drafted men start to fill ranks at Camp Travis Sunday
Fifteen thousand drafted men destined to be fighting men of the United States will mobilize in San Antonio during the next ten days. The initial movement begins Sunday with nearly 1500 entering the United States Guard and hundreds more joining the Fourteenth Cavalry and the Nineteenth Infantry at Camp Travis. Camp Travis now houses about 20,000 troops and plans to move 3000 negro troops from Texas to the camp. 12,000 more draftees from Texas and Oklahoma are expected before July 1. Authorities with the camp offer no details on leadership or exact role of the camp, though a major general and a lieutenant colonel adjutant are rumored.
