Court Upholds Injunction In Chicken Salad Case
Fourth Court of Civil Appeals affirmed a lower court ruling restraining the Texas comptroller from paying funds used by Governor Colquitt for groceries and private items at the governor’s mansion and receptions. Chief Justice Fly warns such payments violate the 1873 Constitution’s ban on private expenditures. The decision cites the governor’s $4000 salary limit and notes the public good was not served by these items.
