The Washington and Rhode Island deploy Marines to the Cuban capital Havana after rebels strike shipping. Warships are ordered toward Havana as tensions escalate in Cuba.
Bulletin from Key West reports that Ne braska and New Jersey naval commanders receive orders to proceed to Cuba. Havana is believed the destination. In Santiago Cuba a marine company under Capt Edward B Man waving repels an insurgent attack on El Cuero mines with no marine casualties. Insurgent losses unavailable.
Washington D C June 10 American marines will be available for service in Havana before noon today The cruiser Washington and battleship Rhode Island with extra 125 men per ship will cross the straits of Florida to Havana in about six hours The presence signals US readiness to land Marines if dire emergency arises and Rear Admiral Osterhaus sails aboard the Washington to observe conditions in Havana.
Publication reports dispatch of U S warships from Key West to Havana prompting talk of intervention. Officials deny imminent racial war and call the move a friendly act though warning against exaggerated reports. City shows normal state with relief in reaction to the ships. Damages hit crops, notably in Pinar del Rio.

In Villisca Iowa Joseph Moore a leading merchant his wife and four children and two women relatives were found murdered in their beds. An axe bloodied and hair covered lay at the scene. No robbery occurred and authorities suspect revenge or a madman.
Texas postmasters arrive in San Antonio for a joint Texas Postmasters association and Postmasters league convention. Henry H. Luccock of Keene leads efforts and predicts a large, beneficial gathering. Frank L. Irwin chairs the opening session with about 500 postmasters expected. J. H. Kirkpatrick delivers the welcome, with Irwin and Luccock responding. Rabbi Samuel Marks to give invocation.
The Senate approved the conference report on the army appropriation bill by 27 to 24 after a bitter debate. The amendments will force Major General Leonard Wood out of the office of chief of staff on March 4, 1913.

A statement clarifies that any claim that a day lease of Associated Press wires into San Antonio is carried wholly or partly by any newspaper other than the San Antonio Light is unfounded and without basis in fact.

Chamber of Commerce committees launched a city wide drive to secure a 250000 bonus for the English syndicate to construct the San Antonio Rockport and Mexican railroad. H E Hildebrand chairs the effort optimistic city business leaders will respond quickly to reach 100000 by midweek.
EL PASO Texas June 10 J W Fishers store at Big Springs burned last night with an estimated loss of 40000 dollars.
George B. Taliaferro faces opposition from San Antonio in the race for the Democratic nominating convention. San Antonio claims 16 pledged votes of 31 committee members, with Fort Worth pushing seven proxies. The committee’s vote narrows the contest to San Antonio versus Fort Worth. San Antonio contends it can secure the nomination despite Fort Worth’s influence.
