PAY DEPENDS UPON NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS
Claims and damage suits for May show light activity. Under a plan by the Trietian Company the amount paid to all employees connected with patrol of the traction railway lines is tied to claims and damages from accidents. W B Tuttle notes May is the lightest month, yielding about 35000 in dividends plus regular salaries. The total distribution nears 52000 with trainmen earning roughly 22000 in wages. The plan makes workers partners in accident costs, aiming to reduce incidents and raise safety. Other measures include air brakes, tenders, folding platforms, overhead crews, and window guards.
