Thirteen Black Legion members stand for trial in Detroit

In Detroit on June 7 thirteen men charged in the Black Legion kidnapping and alleged execution of Charles A Poole were ordered for trial on eight counts by Common Pleas Judge Ralph Weill. The judge indicated belief that all should be tried on the kidnapping charge, while some doubt remains about murder counts. Witnesses testified of two revolvers fired into Poole by Harvey Davis, with other defendants named. The defense argued some defendants lacked knowledge of any planned slaying and that conspiracy proof was insufficient. Separately in Washington a bill to create an eight member congressional committee to probe the Black Legion was introduced.
