County appoints road inspectors as work begins

The county commissioners named five road and bridge inspectors to supervise new contracts awarded days earlier. J. A. Pierie, F. L. Wigness, M. F. Maverick, John H. Camp, and George Drummond will monitor gravel and concrete work while county engineers supervise. Additional contractors start soon on multiple roads.

Railroad North From Uvalde Being Built To Open Kaolin, Cypress

A new railroad is under construction to run north from Uvalde along the Nueces river valley for about 55 miles. The line aims to unlock kaolin clay deposits and cypress forests by improving transport to rail connections. L. J. Smith of Kansas City funds and directs the project, with Scott Mitchell supervising. Work has begun with a large crew, and completion is hoped within six months.
