Alaska Air Leaders Die In Lake Crash
Anchorage Alaska UP1 Lt Gen Glen Birchard commander in chief of the Alaska command and his pilot drowned when their plane overturned on takeoff from Upper Agashik Lake. Maj Gen Joseph Cunningham and Edward Belleinger swam to shore. Bodies of Birchard 53 and Maj Norman Miller were recovered from the lake. Miller piloted the U 6 aircraft during the fishing trip accident.
