Texas Appeals Court limits board power over state officer removal
The Court of Civil Appeals ruled that state officers like Dr. Johnson cannot be removed by boards without compliance with the constitution. It said the board of control lacks quasi judicial authority to decide removal and that only the legislature can change this power. The decision may force a legislative overhaul of overlapping boards in Texas. The ruling preserves Dr. Johnson’s status as hospital superintendent while appeals proceed. A separate note cites a fire at Grana Mattress causing $25 damage.

House weighs Lor agt ghingses Wagner act revisions
Washington June 5 An overwhelming test vote in the house for changes in the Wagner labor relations act left the scope of revisions unsettled. The 292 to 106 vote allowed debate on dozens of proposals, with two main tracks from Representative Smith and Chairman Norton. A five member board proposal would create a new board and split its functions, while Norton's plan would add two members to the current three and safeguard existing craft unions in plants. Debate grew heated as members pressed for or against expanding the act’s reach, with Cox criticizing the labor board as a trouble-maker and Norton noting strong opposition to lax terms.
