Oil Shortages Loom as Ickes Signals Some Adjustments
Secretary Ickes said an “all of us” approach would require adjustments to an upcoming oil shortage that could trigger gasless Sundays. He noted daylight saving time may be established nationwide to save electricity, a recommendation likely for governors with little chance of new legislation. Experts say shortages will start in the East by July and worsen through autumn, while Japan’s oil imports and Western shipping impact are analyzed. In Texas, officials say gasolineless Sundays are unlikely, pending Interior Secretary Ickes final decision as national defense coordinator.
