Medics Fly to Aleutians to Combat Diphtheria Epidemic
Forty men from Brooke General Hospital were sent by air to Adak Island in the Aleutians to assist in fighting a diphtheria outbreak described as mild with no deaths. The navy reported 32 cases and the army about six. Ten nurses from Letterman General Hospital and a doctor from Beaumont General Hospital joined the relief effort.
