Insurance Juggling Shelves Policy Cut Politics
City council moved to rescind an ordinance ending the Aetna Life insurance policy for fire and police departments, drawing political fallout. Commissioner Sam Bennett accused Commissioner P L Anderson of a political maneuver while Anderson claimed the move to terminate would not hurt him. The policy, signed in 1840, provided $3000 coverage for 276 department employees, with monthly employee payments and city contributions cited. The council also approved payroll and an independent oil lease near Floresville tied to the San Antonio Library board.
