Devotion of Cosima Wagner and Her Silent Labor

For 30 years Cosima Wagner has dedicated her life to preserving Richard Wagner’s memory through Bayreuth festival performances. After this season the work’s exclusive glory may pass to the world, as only Munich’s Pring Regenten theater will present the work when copyright expires in 1918. Madame Wagner has never appeared in festival programs, refused interviews, and prohibited her photograph, choosing to honor her husband’s memory rather than seek personal recognition. Her devoted effort is described as the supreme act of wifely love.
