Life term given Webb rancher in murder case

Kenneth Adams, a 61 year old hermit, received a life sentence for the murder of a Mexican trespasser on his Webb County, Texas land. He had previously killed rancher August Dobie in 1966, was paroled to his family, and showed no emotion at sentencing after a 13 minute deliberation. Authorities tied the five other men killed during the arrest incident to the case.

Highway Safety Policy Blamed in Highway System Failures

A House subcommittee finds safety neglect in the highway program as cause of many crashes. It warns deaths could reach 2 million by 1974 and criticizes overemphasis on drivers rather than road design. The panel cites $384 million spent since 1967 and calls for $1.3 billion in major funding over the next decade to fix hazards.
