Protest over River Avenue paving contract sparks petition
Property owners along River Avenue Letweeh Jonepnine Street and Grand Avenue demand changes to the asphalt concrete paving plan. They threaten to withhold signatures unless bitulithic or wood blocks are used, citing costs and control by residents and the street car company. Dr. W H Hargis of the Bexar County Medical Society leads the protest, preparing a petition to the council and seeking a hearing. He notes 75 percent of fronting owners support the change and vows to expand support before submission. A letter to Commissioner Kearny requests a committee of interested owners to present views on the issue.

Officers Ordered to Take Test Ride in Army Annual Practice
The United States Army requires officers of major rank or higher to ride thirty miles daily for three consecutive days to prove fitness. Roosevelt started the practice in 1819, remaining an institution though some question its value. At Fort Sam Houston a well-known officer has ridden over 2000 miles since the last ride, while others favor autos to save time for duties. Forts Bam Torsten will schedule riders this fall, likely in December.
