Hoover assigns R F C chair to Democrat Pomerene
Washington July 21 In a major shift President Hoover appoints former Senator Atlee Pomerene of Ohio to chair the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. The move places four Democrats on the agency and signals political strategy as the administration manages loans to enterprises. Democratic leaders, including Henry T. Rainey, acknowledge the president’s control of relief policy while aiming to blunt criticism that relief benefits a few while others suffer.
