Shah of Iran Likely to Buy U S Planes for Defense
The Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi stated in a Blair House interview he is "very close" to contracting for a first batch of U S supersonic interceptors and could later buy F 15 fighters. He said arms spending is for security, not toys, and noted Iran's threat assessment will determine the mix and quality of aircraft. Demonstrations against U S policy occurred near the White House as he spoke.
