Driver in fatal I 40 crash asleep. seven dead near Mesita

State Police say a westbound pickup driven by Stephen Platero, 24, of Canancio, collided with an eastbound New Jersey Station wagon on Interstate 40 one mile west of Mesita. The crash killed seven people and the officer said the pickup driver apparently was asleep. Mesita lies about 15 miles west of Albuquerque.
